Agnes Lisa Wegner grew up in Frankfurt in walking distance to one of several US Army housing areas. She studied American Culture and Literature at the John-F.-Kennedy-Institute at the FU Berlin and at Harvard University. Since then, she has worked in different positions in the fields of culture and human rights politics. She moved to Mannheim in 2009.

The announcement of the complete removal of the US Army from the region in the summer of 2010 made her begin to develop ways in which this process could be accompanied on a cultural level. In contrast to her experience in Frankfurt where the Americans were „gone“ from one day to the next, she is hoping and working for a visible, reflected and joint farewell.

This is how the idea underlying GOODBYE G.I. was born.
